Southwark

Recent grading for the both adults class and kids class.

The Southwark club has been running since 2013. The original Southwark club instructors are Ms Jemima Kingsley, 4th Dan (left, above) and Ms Sarah Garrett, 4th Dan (right, above). In mid-September 2024, we will close the kids class and the new adults class instructor will be Ms Jennifer Wilson, 2nd Dan (3rd from left). We look forward to meeting you!

Trial classes

We regularly run classes specially for new students. Your first two classes are free! The next special free class for new students will be on Saturday 21st September.

If you are unsure whether you are old enough to train in the adults class, please get in touch.

Please email in advance to book your place: jenny.wilson@taekwondo-london.co.uk

Cost

Your first two sessions are free. After that, there is a monthly subscription of £60 per month. There are also costs for your annual licence, dobok (uniform) and gradings, and these are easiest to explain in person when you come along.

FAQs

What if I am under 18?

If you are under 18 years old, you will need to bring a parent/guardian to your first free trial class so we can meet them and talk to them briefly before the class begins. They don’t have to stay for the whole class. If you are under 16 when you join, then your parent/guardian will also need to sign your licence form.

What is the youngest age you accept?

Generally, the class is suitable for children aged 13+, but we take it on a case by case basis. If you are unsure, please get in touch.

If you have any other questions, please do get in touch.

What to expect in your first class

We always start with a group warm up and finish with a warm down. We train together, but may split into smaller groups to focus on particular techniques. You will begin by learning taekwondo etiquette and basic techniques.

We are a friendly club, and know from experience (we were all beginners once!), that it can be daunting walking into a room with strangers in martial arts uniform and some people wearing black belts! We will make every effort to make you feel welcome before the class starts and let you ask any questions you may have, so please pluck up the courage to come in!

What shall I wear?

Any sports clothing is fine to begin. If you decide to join the club we’ll arrange for you to get a dobok (white uniform). Normally people wear tracksuit bottoms or shorts and a t-shirt to their first few sessions. We train in bare feet, and there are changing rooms at our venues.

I can't train twice a week, what shall I do?

We strongly recommend training twice a week, but if you have other commitments one session a week can work fine for the first 6 to 12 months of training.
